Our front closet was in need of a good straightening, but we decided to take a step further. The closet was outfitted with the standard builder grade plastic coated wire shelving which just gets yucky over the years. Plus, our coats seemed so crammed and in your face right when opened the closet door! Wish I would have taken a “before” picture, but didn’t think of it until I had almost emptied it.<\/p>\n

So, we removed the wire shelf and puttied the holes left by the screws.\u00a0Then we added 1″x 3″ boards around the three sides at heights of 36″ and 72″.<\/p>\n

A shelf was added about 5″ above the highest board to hold bins for gloves and hats.<\/p>\n

Next the inside of the closet was painted, boards and all. Finally, 8 hooks were placed about 8″ apart on the 1″x3″ boards at both levels, for a total of 16 hooks. Use your judgment on hook placement depending on the size of your closet.
