Roomjoy is going to be a series of posts featuring each room in my house!  In each post you will see what we have done to transform the space and make it our own.  About the time I think I’m finished with a room, a little something else inspires me.  My husband says we will never be finished, and he just may be right!  Our home brings me lots of joy, and I hope you will enjoy taking a peek inside!

The Living Room
This is one of my favorite rooms in the house, mostly because of the natural light.  The afternoon sun makes you want to curl up on the love seat and soak it all in!  We added the faux paneled accent wall, and it totally transformed the room by adding some architectural interest, character and charm.  I drew a diagram of the layout for the paneling, and Kev made it a reality.  Then, we painted everything honeysuckle beige which is a soft, dusty, yellow-gold.  Eventually we replaced the carpet with hardwood floors.  Kev also built two built in bookcases on either side of the doorway from the foyer…love them!

Family Room and Living Room 084

The furnishings have a varied history.  The love seat we’ve had for decades, and it’s covered with my very first slipcover!  Some of my other sewing projects are the pillows, pleated table skirt, and the linen slipcover for the small ottoman.

The black secretary is a piece handed down to me from my parents.  They bought it in the mid ’60s, and it has been through many moves.  It is such a wonderful, sentimental piece.  The little yellow ornately carved tobacco stand belonged to Kev’s grandmother, and he remembers it from childhood.  My mom gave us the lovely mahogany coffee table which is also an old piece.

Most of the art work is secondhand in one way or another.  All of the silver pieces came from thrift stores.  The white knick-knacks are things I painted, and are featured in the “White Knick-Knacks” post.

Right now, I’m on the lookout for a couple of new lamps, and I will know them when I see them!  Thanks for taking a look at the living room, and come back to see which room will be next!
