These oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a winner!  This recipe was shared with me over 30 years ago, so I’ve baked them hundreds of times, and we are never disappointed!  Funny thing is I do not typically care for chocolate chip cookies…I know, call me crazy!  These cookies are different, and I’m guessing it’s the oats.  Several friends and family members who aren’t big on chocolate chip cookies have said the same thing… “These are the BEST cookies ever!”

Like I said, this is an old recipe, and as you can see from the ingredients these cookies aren’t figure-friendly, organic, or healthy, although you may be able to substitute healthier stuff.  I’ve always gone right by the recipe, and all I can say is, “They are delicious!”

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes about 36+ large cookies

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Cream together

1 cup Crisco (you can buy the pre-measured 1 cup sticks in a pkg of 3)

¾ cup dark brown sugar

¾ cup white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

Add and mix well

2 eggs

Sift together and add

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

Mix and add

2 cups quick oatmeal

1 small bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Drop spoonsful onto an ungreased cookie sheet. I use parchment paper on my cookie sheet for even browning on the bottom and easy clean up.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Cool on rack.
